This qualification reflects the role of educators in school age education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They support children’s wellbeing and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators are responsible for the development and implementation of play and leisure experiences and may work without supervision. They may also provide guidance and supervision of volunteers or other staff.
Educators in this context work in outside school hours care and vacation care.
There are no national qualification requirements for educators within an Outside of School Care service, however, State and Territory jurisdictions may have specific regulatory requirements regarding qualifications for School Age Care educators.
Total number of units = 19
To achieve this qualification the individual must have completed a total of at least 160 hours of work with school age children in a regulated children’s service. The total number of hours may be applied cumulatively across all units of competency that include a requirement for workplace hours.
The selection of electives chosen must be guided by the job outcome sought, local sector requirements and the complexity of skills appropriate to the AQF level of this qualification.
